Personal Experience & Biography
Attorney Suzann Beckett is a lifelong Connecticut resident, having spent her formative years growing up on a farm in Glastonbury. Her parents owned and operated the beloved Old Cider Mill, widely known as the longest continually operating cider mill in the United States. Ms. Beckett is the sister of well-known Dr. Chip Beckett, a large and small animal veterinarian with offices on Main Street, Glastonbury, as well as a member of the Glastonbury Town Council for almost 20 years. Her father, Captain Stewart Beckett, was a Pan Am pilot who flew with President Nixon to China and was, for a time, in the Guiness Book of World Records for flying a segment of a record breaking around-the-world trip.
Ms. Beckett started her own firm with a law school classmate and good friend, Jan van der Werff, in 1991, after having spent 5 years with a medium sized Connecticut firm. Since 1995, she has been the sole owner and operator of Estate Planning Law Center, LLC, and its sister company, Connecticut Bankruptcy.
Ms. Beckett has a firm belief in continuing education for herself, her staff, and her clients. She was an attorney-mentor for many years at the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys. She has also been an educator and teacher of attorneys and other professionals at Wealth Counsel and other professional organizations. Ms. Beckett and her firm hold periodic workshops on topics of interest for clients and the public.
Attorney Beckett lives in a restored Victorian home in the West End of Hartford, with her 5 children, 3 dogs and 2 cats. The family also welcomed a lovely Chinese exchange student last year, who will be returning in 2017 to both Attorney Beckett’s home and Renbrook school.
